Description: Children prepare to read long before they enter school - early literacy is everything children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write. Early literacy is a baby who chews on a book, a toddler who wants his favorite book read over and over, and a preschooler who "reads" the story to you from memory. A child's early experiences with books and language lay the foundation for success in learning to read. Join us as we learn more about how to build children's early literacy skills. Teachers will receive a certificate worth 2 state mandated hours.
A message from Joanie Bache, the Executive Program Director of Read Aloud Virginia; "RAV also brings new and used books to excited children in Richmond area Summer Schools and Day Care Centers during the month of July. We provide weekly workshops supplying FREE books and motivation for these children, so that, for the first time, they can have their very own books at home during the summer to listen to and read. We empower their parents to become more involved in the future success of their children by introducing them to literacy and its value at home. RAV manages thousands of donated new and slightly used books in the Children's Book Bank in Richmond. If you and your family would like to donate books to the CBB, please bring them to the workshop on September 14, 2010 ! We look forward to seeing you there!"
