Putting Children First With a Healthier Lifestyle

The scale has not been my friend lately. We usually get along just fine. I eat healthy (at least 5 out of 7 days a week anyway), and stay active by playing at the park with my son and going for runs with a friend on a fairly regular basis. In return, my scale usually tells me that even though my pre-mommy/ size 2 days are over, I am a healthy mom in pretty good shape……
Then the snow came. It came, and came and came….  For 2 weeks there was no school, no going to the park, and lots of eating junk food and sitting by the fireplace drinking hot chocolate. I gained 8 pounds. I threw my scale in the fireplace. Not really, but I wanted to. Can anyone relate?
The Monument 10K is in less than a month. I registered a couple of months ago, sure that I would have plenty of time to prepare. Time flies with ease, but I can barely run a mile without feeling like I’m going to collapse.

 Am I giving up? Heck no. I’ve made some mistakes over the last couple of weeks, but today I realized a few very important things;

  • I enjoy having enough energy to play with my son, more than I enjoy sitting around all day watching TV or reading a book.
  • I like feeling good about how my clothes fit, more than I like junk food and sodas.
  • Most of all, I love being healthy and living long for my family, more than I love anything else in this world.

Living a healthy life has its ups and downs just like many other areas of our lives. The scales might not be your BFF this week either, but tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it, and the forecast is calling for sunshine. Anyone want to go for a run with me?
