Family Fun During the Holiday Season

This is a magical time of year. Not because of the gifts, but the spirit of the season. The baking, the decorations, the smell of fresh cut trees, and the opportunity to spend quality time with our families. I love to take pictures and capture those precious memories. It is so fun to look back and remember the love, laughter, hugs and good times spent with family and friends. This holiday season, it is my wish for you to hold close the ones you love the most, and make some wonderful memories along the way. If you’re looking for some fun and different things to do with your family during the holidays this year, check out my Top 5 Family Fun things to do in the Richmond area during the holiday season:

  1. Lewis Ginter Garden Fest of Lights 2009. This show features more than a half million lights arranged in botanical themes throughout the Garden. Visitors can also marvel at displays in the Garden’s Conservatory and decorations in the Visitors Center and the Education and Library Complex. Garden Fest includes family friendly activities, holiday dining, music and more!
  2. Toys 4 Tots. This is a wonderful program run by our U.S. Marine Corps. Toys 4 Tots collect new, unwrapped toys for children in need. My son has a great time helping us shop and buy toys for another child, and I love knowing that I am teaching him to be grateful and compassionate towards others.
  3. Busch Gardens Christmas Village. Okay, this one isn’t exactly in Richmond, but it’s conveniently located in Williamsburg, much more affordable than the regular season, and too fun to pass up!
  4. Theatre IV; A Christmas Carol. See all of your favorite characters (from the inspiring Tiny Tim to the jolly Mr. Fezziwig to Mr. “Bah Humbug” himself, Ebenezer Scrooge) come to life in this lively musical. Perhaps the best loved holiday story of all time, Theatre IV’s adaptation of Dickens’ classic is particularly suited to children. Ages 4 +
  5. Tacky Light Tour. Now featuring 34,100,360 Christmas lights, 2,383 inflatables, and 398,004 animated scenes, the Richmond Tacky Light Tour is wonderful fun for the whole family. The best part; it’s free! Go to www.tackylighttour.com to download a map of Richmond’s best, brightest and tackiest holiday decorations yet
